Production planning and scheduling plays important role in supply chain management. Our research center deals not only with classical scheduling and planning problems but also with advanced and recent problems related to Smart Factories and Industry 4.0. A good example is flexible production assuming alternative production plans where a single product can be produced in several different ways. Even though, this aspect can lead to significant savings in production, the existing MES and ERP systems cannot deal with it. Another aspect not considered in existing systems is energy efficiency of production schedules. Many companies can significantly reduce their energy consumption expenses if the production schedule is generated by an algorithm taking this aspect into account.
