National Center for Artificial Intelligence

The National Center for Artificial Intelligence (NCUI, www.ncui.cz) is a collaborative research platform bringing together six Czech universities—Czech Technical University in Prague, Charles University, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, University of West Bohemia, Brno University of Technology, and Palacký University Olomouc—along with approximately thirty industrial partners and public-sector organizations. The center’s mission is to develop novel artificial intelligence methods for real-world applications, with research topics driven by the needs of its industrial partners.

The project is organized into nine research work packages: AI Algorithms and High-Performance Computing, Industrial AI, Manufacturing, AI for Security Applications, Autonomous Systems, Biomedicine, Energy, Construction, and Multimodal Models.

The project is coordinated by Přemysl Šůcha, who serves as the Principal Investigator. The Department of Industrial Informatics contributes to two work packages.

In the first work package, the department collaborates with Beckman Coulter and Bulovka University Hospital to improve the efficiency of clinical laboratory workflows. The objective is to optimize the processing of clinical samples, ensuring that laboratory results are delivered to physicians as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.

In the second work package, the department collaborates with Škoda Auto and Digiteq Automotive on the development of software for the automatic generation of highly realistic virtual 3D environments used to test Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
